Abstract
Mircea Becheanu is Professor of Algebra at the 5 University of Bucharest. He taught lectures in Algebra and Algebraic Geometry until his retirement in 2009. In 1988 and then between 1995 and 2002 he was the leader of the Romanian IMO team and the president of the Romanian Mathematical Olympiad. In 2001 he published a book containing all problems and solutions, and a short history of all IMOs from 1959 until that time. He made an important contribution to the organization of the 40th IMO in Bucharest. As a member of the IMO Advisory Board he contributed to the growth of the IMO and to the increase of its popularity in many countries.
