Abstract
This chapter introduces Voice over IP (VoIP) networking and the three major driving forces leading to its rapid growth. In comparison to the traditional calls through PSTN, VoIP offers several advantages; however, VoIP networks face many challenges as well, including quality of service and security. This chapter concludes by identifying the scope and content of this book in three aspects of VoIP networks: quality of service, pricing and security.
