Zusammenfassung

Man unterscheidet grundsätzlich zwischen akuten und chronischen Kolitiden. Akute Entzündungen des Dickdarms durch Bakterien, Viren, Pilze und Parasiten gehören zu den häufigsten Darmerkrankungen überhaupt. Ihr Kardinalsymptom ist der Durchfall, der auch mit diffusen und krampfartigen Bauchschmerzen einhergehen kann. Zudem können vegetative Reaktionen wie Übelkeit, Erbrechen sowie Exsikkose auftreten. Je nach Pathogenitätsfaktoren der beteiligten Erreger sind unterschiedliche Krankheitsverläufe möglich. So können von manchen Erregern sekundäre Immunprozesse ausgehen, die zu einer anderweitigen Organschädigung führen können (z. B. reaktive Arthritis bei Yersinieninfektion). Die meisten Formen der akuten infektiösen Kolitis sind unkompliziert, selbstlimitierend und bedürfen keiner chirurgischen Intervention.
