Zusammenfassung

Das Verschlucken von Säuren oder Laugen kann zu reversibler oder irreversibler »ingestiver Verätzung« des Gastrointestinaltraktes führen. Der Schweregrad der Verätzung hängt ab vom pH-Wert der Substanz (bzw. Konzentration der H+- oder OH–Ionen) und der Kontaktzeit mit der Organwand. Das Ausmaß der Schädigung reicht vom nur lokalen Ödem, über die Devitalisierung von Organabschnitten bis hin zur kompletten Sequestrierung.
