Abstract
Computational fluid dynamics is commonly used in the aerodynamic design process at Saab. The improvements in flow simulation capability and not least computer capacity over the last years have enabled aerodynamicists and propulsion engineers with an efficient design tool. In the development of the Gripen fighter aircraft numerical simulations are performed to guide the design and to make trade off studies ahead of wind tunnel tests. In this paper several examples are presented covering overall design, inlet design and weapon integration where numerical simulations have played an essential role in the development.
