Abstract
As the word ‘‘monsoon’’ (derived from an Arabic word meaning ‘‘seasons’’) indicates, the South Asian (SA) summer monsoon is part of an annually reversing wind system (Figure 2.1c, d) (Ramage, 1971; Rao, 1976).
