Singularities of Parabolic Inhibited Shells

  • Chapter
Singular Problems in Shell Theory

Abstract

In chapter 2, we developed a study of the singularities in linear thin elastic shell theory, based on the reduction of the coupled membrane system to a partial differential equation involving only one component of the displacement. We obtained general results on the orders of the singularities of the displacements and on their propagation, which depend strongly on the nature of the middle surface of the shell (parabolic, hyperbolic or elliptic).
