Abstract

Fluid flows in circular pipes belong to the most familiar and most broadly investigated flows. But the measurement of such flows by means of laser Doppler anemometry is not at all straightforward because of the surface curvatures on both the inside and the outside of the pipe. As is well known, simultaneous two-component velocity measurements, that are taken by using two pairs of laser beams, cannot be carried out, as the four laser beams do not intersect at a unique point in the flow because of optical aberrations.
