Zusammenfassung
Der Schlaganfall ist die häufigste Erkrankung in der Neurorehabilitation. Die Folgen eines Schlaganfalls sind komplex, da sie sensomotorische, kognitive, emotionale und soziale Bereiche umfassen. Viele Untersuchungen belegen, dass es wichtig ist, so früh wie möglich mit der Rehabilitation nach einem Schlaganfall zu beginnen. Auch Jahre nach einem Schlaganfall sind mit speziellen Übungsverfahren noch Fortschritte möglich. Dieses Kapitel beschäftigt sich auch mit der subjektiven Seite eines Schlaganfalls, mit dem Erleben eines Schlaganfalls und mit dem Umgang mit den Folgen. Nicht die Beseitigung einzelner Funktionsdefizite ist das Ziel einer Rehabilitation nach einem Schlaganfall, sondern das Ziel ist, den Betroffenen die Fähigkeiten zu vermitteln, die ihre Autonomie stärken und ihnen die Teilhabe an den von ihnen angestrebten Lebensbereichen ermöglichen.

Literatur zur Schlaganfallrehabilitation
Eine kanadische Arbeitsgruppe um Teasell (Evidence-Based Review of Stroke Rehabilitation, EBRSR) hat im Internet die bisher umfassendste Zusammenstellung zur Evidenz der Schlaganfallrehabilitation publiziert (Teasell et al. 2009).
Eine praxisorientierte Zeitschrift zur Schlaganfallrehabilitation ist »Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation«. Weitere wegen ihrer klinischen Orientierung empfehlenswerte Zeitschriften sind die deutschsprachige »Neurologie und Rehabilitation«, die britische »Clinical Rehabilitation« und die amerikanische »Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation«.
