Zusammenfassung

Verletzungen der unteren Extremitäten spielen insbesondere im Sport (z.B. Fussball, Skifahren) eine grosse Rolle. Aber auch bei Frontalkollisionen im Strassenverkehr stellen sie mittlerweile häufig erlittene, nicht unerhebliche Verletzungen dar, da bei Rückhaltesystemen wie Sicherheitsgurten und Airbags der Schutz der Beine (und Arme) nicht im Vordergrund steht. Wenngleich meist nicht lebensbedrohlich, so haben Verletzungen der Extremitäten jedoch oftmals langwierige Beeinträchtigungen zur Folge [Håland et al. 1998, Crandall 2001].
