Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel sollen nun Systeme behandelt werden, welche neben gesprochener Sprache weitere Modalitäten zum Informationsaustausch mit dem Nutzer verwenden. Die multimodale Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion hat in den vergangenen Jahren zunehmend wissenschaftliches Interesse wie auch wirtschaftliche Bedeutung erlangt. Gründe hierfür sind zum einen die prinzipiellen Vorteile von multimodalen gegenüber unimodalen (bspw. rein sprachbasierten) Systemen. Durch die Kombination unterschiedlicher Modalitäten können Nachteile einzelner Modalitäten ausgeglichen und somit der Kommunikationsprozess insgesamt optimiert werden. Zum anderen ist eine multimodale Interaktion für spezielle Benutzergruppen sinnvoll, bei denen bestimmte Sinne nur eingeschränkt einsetzbar sind, bspw. behinderte oder ältere Benutzer, vgl. Fellbaum und Hampicke (2006).
