Zusammenfassung

Die Prognose eines Patienten oder einer Patientin wird an prominenter Stelle genannt, wenn nach Gründen oder Kriterien einer Therapiebegrenzung gefragt wird (Keenan und Busche 1997; Le Conte et al. 2004; Cook et al. 1995; Sjokvist et al. 1998; Cook et al. 2003; Nolin und Anderson 2003). Auch bei der Entscheidung, ob ein Patient oder eine Patientin auf einer Intensivstation behandelt werden soll, spielt die Prognose eine entscheidende Rolle (Escher et al. 2004). Die Prognosesicherheit ist ein zentraler Hinweis dafür, wie schnell Therapien abgebrochen werden (Meyer-Zehnder et al. 2007). Die Tatsache, dass eine Vielzahl von Prognosescores entwickelt wurde, ist ein weiteres Zeichen dafür, wie wichtig die Prognose bei Therapieentscheiden in der Praxis ist. Daneben wurde eine beträchtliche Menge von Artikeln publiziert, die das Outcome von verschiedenen Krankheiten oder Patientengruppen untersuchten.
