Abstract
In this chapter we present the general problem of physician scheduling. As will be seen the modeling ideas can be carried over to the service industry as a whole. In Sect. 3.1 we start by stating the problem characteristics and then formulating the basic problem as a MIP where we introduce our new implicit modeling approach. Afterwards in Sect. 3.2 we discuss some extensions to the basic model to tackle real world problems. Eventually, in Sect. 3.3 we close the chapter by presenting an example of the final rosters and compare the output to current practice to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
