Abstract

Wireless sensor networks are applied to many domains with technological advancement, but they are seldom used in audio data collection due to hardware limits. This paper presents an audio processing technique that embedded in wireless sensor network and put power consumption into consideration. In general, when a sound occurs, it may be detected by many sensor nodes. The duplicated audio information is not necessary sent back to server and the transmission will cost the power amazingly. Compare to the simple type data, e.g., humidity and temperature to be aggregated, the audio data is much more complex. This paper focuses on detecting the duplicate audio signal and filtering them to reduce the power cost. Due to the limit of computation ability in the sensor mote, the conventional approaches are too complex to be built in mote. Under the limited environment, we have designed a simple and useful method to select the datum with the biggest volume to be transmitted. According to the simulation result, the proposed method is effective to reduce power consumption in the audio detection wireless sensor networks.
