Pre-processing

Abstract

We are now at the point where our image is scaled, calibrated, formatted and maybe even saved with a special LUT, but it is still the original image, as it was recorded, with no changes made to the pixel matrix. We are still looking at the raw data including all possible flaws such as noise, uneven lighting, wrong size, etc. We will now learn how to perform a few basic pre-processing steps with the aim of correcting those flaws. As in the previous chapter, for a more thorough introduction the reader is referred to a textbook such as, for example, Jähne (2005).
