Zusammenfassung
Varikosis ist ein deskriptiver Krankheitsbegriff und bezeichnet eine degenerative Erkrankung der Venen mit der Ausbildung von Varizen (Varix = lat. Knoten). Varizen bezeichnen das morphologische Korrelat der Varikosis, die erkrankten Venen. Der deutsche Begriff Krampfadern gibt wegen seiner sprachlichen Nähe zum (Muskel)-Krampf auch heute immer noch bei Ärzten ebenso wie bei Patienten Anlass zu Verwechselungen bzw. Fehlinterpretationen. Etymologisch verweist Krampfader hingegen auf Krampfader (althochdeutsch) = Krummader, womit auf die häufige Schlängelung der erkrankten Venen verwiesen ist.
