Abstract
The method for obtaining bounds on effective coefficients, which I devised in the fall of 1977 while I was visiting MRC in Madison, WI, used thecompensated compactness method and correctors, generalizing the method which I used earlier with François MURAT, based on the div–curl lemma. Since H–measures represent a better way to deal with the compensated compactness ideas which I introduced with François MURAT,1 it was natural that I try to use them for studying bounds in homogenization.
