Abstract
Libya is a Mediterranean North African country (Fig. 14.1). The country stretches along the northeast coast of Africa between Tunisia and Algeria on the west and Egypt on the east; to the south are Sudan, Chad, and Niger. Libya’s coastline is about 1,770 km with an estimated surface area of 1,775,500 km2. About 93% of the land is desert or semi-desert. Tripoli (the capital) is the country’s major city.
