Zusammenfassung

Im Bereich des Zentralnervensystems steht die Liquorzytologie ganz im Vordergrund. Sie spielt vor allem eine Rolle in der Diagnose nichtneoplastischer Erkrankungen (Infekte!) von ZNS und Meningen. Darüber hinaus ist sie die Methode der Wahl, um eine meningeale Beteiligung bei Hämoblastosen und anderen malignen Tumoren zu erkennen und den Erfolg der zytostatischen Therapie zu kontrollieren [37, 58].

Im Unterschied zu Hämoblastosen, Lymphomen und metastasierenden Karzinomen manifestieren sich primäre Hirntumoren mit Ausnahme der hochmalignen Glioblastome und Medulloblatome nur selten im Liquor [11]. Einen nicht zu unterschätzenden Beitrag vermag die Zytologie aber in der intraoperativen Diagnostik der Hirntumoren zu leisten.
