Abstract

The effect of mechanical load on the degradation of chitosan foam was investigated in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) at 37 °C and pH 7.4 with a specially designed experimental device supplying rolling load. Degradation of chitosan scaffold under load or no load lasted for 8 days. Changes in increase of mass loss and decrease of water absorption happened more significantly under rolling load. It is indicated that the mechanical load can accelerate the degradation velocity of chitosan scaffold.
