Zusammenfassung

Die klinische Einführung des Sentinel-Lymphknotenkonzepts erfolgte 1992 durch Morton et al. mit der Detektion von Lymphknotenmetastasen beim malignen Melanom. Giuliano et al. wandten das Verfahren ab 1994 auch beim Mammakarzinom an. Mittlerweile wurde die Validität des Sentinel- Lymphknotenkonzepts für das maligne Melanom und das Mammakarzinom in zahlreichen groß angelegten Studien belegt (Morton et al. 2005; Veronesi et al. 2003). Bei diesen Tumoren der Hautoberfläche ist inzwischen das Sentinelnode-Konzept fest in der klinischen Routine etabliert. Bei beiden Tumorentitäten wird bei negativem Sentinel-Lymphknoten eine systematische Lymphadenektomie nicht mehr durchgeführt.
