Abstract

Aesthetic laser medicine requires the standardization of the training of doctors practicing in this branch of medicine. This will provide the most effective approach to a consistently good quality management in this specialty. Good educational standards require a program that is certified by a university at academic degree level with an integrated, multi-discipline approach and with learning objectives based on innovation and high quality research. Since 1999, the Diploma of Aesthetic Laser Medicine (DALM) has been the only university degree in this field. The teaching program is based at Greifswald University in co-operation with the ScanBalt Academy. A Master of Science degree course in Health and Aesthetics is under development. This new course is a complementary, research-oriented program on top of DALM and initiated by the same institutions.
