With the Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities (adopted on 24/ 25 May 2007) EU ministers responsible for urban and regional development in Member States created a key document of future European urban development policy that is oriented to a Europe-wide use of the strategy of integrated urban development. This policy addressed “the European cities which have evolved in the course of history to be valuable and irreplaceable economic, social and cultural assets.”
