Abstract
Simulation is a very powerful and widely-accepted tool in the research of reactive web caching. This paper first gives a brief overview of the functionality of reactive web caching and pays special attention to the creation of representative traffic patterns for effectively modeling the real workloads a caching application deals with. An upgraded version of the Wisconsin web cache simulator is presented as a case study. This upgraded version constitutes a light and intelligent testing environment of the largest created database of replacement strategies, as it is able to handle effectively even the most complex of the proposed strategies.
