Summary
Chapter 6 provides an introduction to finite-difference time-domain method. Problem formulation for field distribution computation by means of this method is discussed in this chapter. Then all stages of solution are analyzed in detail based on the practical experience of the authors. Discretization of Maxwell’s equations and definition of the dielectric function are presented. All steps of the initial and boundary conditions definition are analyzed and stability of the method is discussed. Finally, the original Matlab codes for computation of optical field distribution in nonuniform optical medium is discussed and several problems and questions for self-training are given.
