Das Vier-Farben-Problem hatte einen bedeutenden Einfluss auf die Entwicklung der Graphentheorie, wie wir sie heute kennen, und Färbungen sind nach wie vor ein Lieblingsthema vieler Graphentheoretiker. Hier ist ein Färbungsproblem, das Jeff Dinitz im Jahr 1978 gestellt hat. Es klingt ganz einfach und widerstand dennoch allen Bemühungen – bis zu seiner erstaunlich einfachen Lösung durch Fred Galvin fünfzehn Jahre später.
