Recognition of the effects of hydrothermal fluids upon their host rocks is one of the most important and fundamental skills required by geologists involved in ore search. Naturally recognition needs to be followed by comprehension of what the alteration may mean, but the initial observation remains crucial to any subsequent interpretation.
