Zusammenfassung
Erythrozyten stellen mit einer Anzahl von 4,3–5,7 Mio./μl beim Mann bzw. 3,9–5,3 Mio./μl bei der Frau die häufigsten Zellen des Blutsystems und damit den mit Abstand größten Teil des zellulären Bestandteils des Bluts dar. Erythrozyten sind die einzigen kern- und organellenfreien Zellen des menschlichen Körpers und müssen daher aus kernhaltigen Progenitorzellen neu gebildet werden. Bei einer mittleren Lebensdauer von 120 Tagen bedeutet dies, dass jeden Tag ca. 200–300 Mrd. Erythrozyten gebildet und geordnet entsorgt werden müssen.
