Der Pathomechanismus einer chronischen Lungenerkrankung verursacht eine erhöhte Atemarbeit mit
-
verminderter alveolärer Ventilation (chronisches ventilatorisches Atemversagen bzw. Hypoventilation),
-
erhöhtem arteriellen Kohlendioxidpartialdruck (Hyperkapnie) und erniedrigtem arteriellen Sauerstoffpartialdruck (Hypoxämie),
-
respiratorische Azidose (respiratorische Globalinsuffizienz) [1].
