Zusammenfassung

Bei der Betreuung chronischer Schmerzpatienten maligner und nichtmaligner Genese, wird das Ausmaß emotionaler Beteiligung und Belastung des Pflegepersonals meist erheblich unterschätzt. Nicht nur die Tumorschmerzpatienten, sondern auch die chronischen nichttumorbedingten Schmerzpatienten, die eine langjährige Schmerzkarriere hinter sich haben, oftmals mit frustranen Therapieversuchen, bedeuten für die Pflegenden eine große Herausforderung für die Versorgungspraxis und Patientenedukation. Der Umgang mit diesen Kranken belastet, er verändert den Menschen und kann die Helfer sogar krank machen, wenn es ihnen nicht gelingt, diese Belastungen zu verarbeiten.
