Abstract

Next to the gain medium, the optical resonator represents the second essential component of a laser. In general, a resonator is understood as a system able to oscillate that reacts to specific, discrete frequencies, the eigen or resonance frequencies, with maximum oscillation amplitude at sinusoidal excitation. Resonance phenomena have been observed and used in the most varied sectors of physics and technology.
