Abstract
This chapter deals with innovations in the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) based on current concepts of molecular pathogenesis. Limitations of the current therapy are pointed out. Targets for the innovative therapies are listed and antiangiogenesis strategies as well as methods of therapeutic delivery, including crossing the blood–brain tumor barrier are discussed. Personalized approaches are described that enable selection of the best treatment suited for an individual. Molecular therapies including vaccines, cell therapy, and RNA interference (RNAi) are promising for the future efforts to find a cure for GBM. The usefulness of genetically modified bacteria as a tool to destroy GBM is emphasized.
