Zusammenfassung
Lebensläufe müssen den Umweltgegebenheiten angepasst sein. Dazu gehört auch eine Anpassung der biologischen Zeiten an die Naturzeiten. Augenfällig wird eine solche Anpassung, wenn die Lebensläufe der Individuen wenigstens zeitweise synchronisiert sind, beispielsweise alle geschlechtsreifen Mitglieder einer Art oder einer Population zur selben Zeit Hochzeit machen. Neben der Tagesrhythmik (Kap. 13) sind es drei Langzeitcyclen, die auffallen (es sind aber nicht die einzigen, die es gibt!):

Jahrescyclen (circannuale Periodik),

Mondcyclen (lunare und semilunare Cyclen),

Gezeitencyclen (Tidenperiodik).
