Abstract

In this chapter, three examples for the application of nonlinear diffusion theory are discussed. First, we investigate particle transport in the heliosphere by revisiting the Palmer consensus. It is demonstrated that the observed perpendicular mean free paths can be reproduced by the NLGC theory if the nonlinear anisotropic dynam- ical turbulence model is used. In the second part of this chapter, we employ the NLGC theory for describing particle acceleration at highly perpendicular interplan- etary shocks. As a third example, the problem of the observed primary-to-secondary abundance ratio is revisited, and it is shown that the weakly nonlinear approach can reproduce these measurements.
