Zusammenfassung

Alle Lebewesen bringen nur ihresgleichen als ihre Nachkommen zur Welt, auch die Menschen also nur Menschen, wobei die Nachkommenschaft ihren Eltern jeweils mehr gleicht als die Kinder anderer Eltern. Diese über Generationen andauernde Weitergabe ähnlicher Merkmale bezeichnen wir als Vererbung. Die Eltern statten ihre Nachkommen also mit einer kodierten Form von Erbeinheiten aus, die wir als Gene bezeichnen.
