The utilization of conformal radiation therapy and combined chemoradiation therapy has substantially improved the outcome of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after treatment. However, local and/or regional recurrences remain a major concern of treatment failure. Therapeutic modalities are usually limited, and the outcome of nasopharyngeal cancer patients who experience local and/or regional recurrences is usually suboptimal.
