Abstract
Western boundary currents (see Fig. 1.4) are mid-latitude, poleward-flowing, warm currents located at the western edge of ocean basins. They transport globally significant amounts of heat, nutrients, and carbon to higher latitudes. The movement of material and heat to higher latitudes has significant effects on the global climate but also significantly affects the ocean margin through which they pass.
