Abstract
The question of whether the humble boiled egg should be hard or soft-boiled can be a difficult one to crack, so to speak. Everyone has their own preference. The relationship between men and women, too, is fraught with division; they simply do not belong together. German comedian Loriot, alias Vicco von Bülow, has a sketch in which he skilfully brings these two difficult subjects together as an elderly married couple argue about the art of boiling an egg. What Loriot so brilliantly manages to encapsulate in this satirical sketch, is the lowest problematic denominator of intercultural difference.
