Invaginationen, ca. 1–2 cm lang, können physiologischerweise auftreten, insbesondere im Dünndarm, wenn dieser leer und stark kontrahiert ist. Sie lösen sich meist spontan ohne Folgen auf. Die pathologischen Invaginationen können prinzipiell ein erseits in akute idiopathische (bis 90%) und andererseits in rezidivierende Invaginationen unterteilt werden.
