Abstract

To meet the needs of multidisciplinary collaborative design process in Web environment, a pure software network video conference system was developed. The system architecture adopts a similarity Browser/Server (B/S) structure. Java Media Framework (JMF) and streaming media transmission and control technology were introduced to system development. System framework and function design were achieved. Interactive processes management and multimedia control mechanism was implemented among media streams of clients’ browsers. It was integrated with previous developed Product Data Management (PDM) system. The system provides a real-time multimedia application environment for knowledge communion, information sharing, and conflict resolution, in multidisciplinary collaborative product design process.
