Abstract
A Spatial Information Grid (SIG) is the fundamental structure for sharing and interoperating geospatial information. International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) have constructed several SIG reference specifications to provide standard interfaces. This chapter discusses the construction and implementation of SIG’s resource layer, which is its fundamental resource environment. OGC specifications and NASA’s HDF-EOS Web GIS Software Suite (NWGISS) are used to design a SIG resource service node. Clients employ three different modes for accessing resources: Web service mode, Web application mode and desktop application mode. Experimental results demonstrate that this service node can successfully respond to standard OGC requests and return specific spatial data items under different network environments, and can share data under different operational environments.
