Zusammenfassung
Für Naturwissenschaftler, die sich mit der Physik stochastischer Systeme beschäftigen, ist die Fokker-Planck-Gleichung ein geläufiges und unabdingbares Werkzeug ihres Faches. Nur Wenige wissen, in welchem Zusammenhang die Gleichung entstand und warum Planck heute mit Recht als einer der Mitbegründer der stochastischen Physik gilt. In diesem Beitrag werden die entsprechenden Arbeiten Plancks historisch-kritisch betrachtet und ihre Bedeutung für die weitere Entwicklung des Faches diskutiert.
