Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel wird mit Ausnahme der primär diesem Organ zugeordneten malignen Lymphome die gesamte Thymus-Pathologie umfassend und pathogenetisch dargestellt. Nach der Einführung in die Entwicklung und Funktion des Organs und dessen Histophysiologie werden die Fehlbildungen und Immundefekterkrankungen, sowie die Entwicklung der altersabhängigen und akzidentellen Thymusinvolution und Zustände einer Thymushyperplasie besprochen. Es folgt eine Darstellung der verschiedenen Formen der Myasthenia gravis und der charakteristischen Thymusbefunde. Dann werden auf dem Boden der neuen WHO Klassifikation sämtliche epithelialen Thymustumoren, ihre pathologische Bewertung und Prognose und schließlich die seltenen mesenchymalen Tumoren des Thymus und seiner Umgebung und die mediastinalen Keimzelltumoren und Teratome diskutiert. Der komplexe Inhalt wird durch übersichtliche Tabellen und viele Abbildungen ergänzt, sodass auch der nur selten mit dieser speziellen Pathologie konfrontierte Pathologe einen klaren Weg in der Diagnostik sieht.
