Korrekturbedürftige Dammverletzungen treten zumeist als Folge einer Entbindung auf oder nach einer Operation oder Bestrahlung. Unfallbedingt, z. B. durch Pfählungsverletzungen bei Sturz, oder nach sexueller Gewalt sind sie dem gegenüber selten.
