Abstract
The motion of an electron in a planar undulator magnet is shown schematically in Fig. 2.1. The undulator axis is along the direction of the beam (z direction), the magnetic field points in the y direction (vertical). The period λu of the magnet arrangement is in the order of 30 mm. For simplicity we assume that the horizontal width of the pole shoes is larger than λu, then one can neglect the x dependence of the field in the vicinity of the tightly collimated electron beam.
