Ein Schönheitsideal, das weit unter dem Normalgewicht liegt sowie eine übermäßige Beschäftigung mit dem Essen und dem eigenen Körper sind in unserer Gesellschaft stark ausgeprägt. Zirka 30% der 10-jährigen Mädchen und Jungen haben schon Diäterfahrungen. Etwa 60% der 13- bis 14-Jährigen würden gerne besser aussehen und ca. 56% wären gerne dünner. Auffälligkeiten und Störungen des Essverhaltens können vor allem bei jungen Frauen in der Pubertät oft beobachtet werden und viele junge Frauen aber auch zunehmend mehr Männer sind ständig unzufrieden mit ihren Körperformen.
