Abstract

Members of the CK1 family are involved in the regulation of many different biological processes. Therefore, they are attractive targets for the development of new inhibitors. CK1 specific inhibitors might provide a powerful tool in treating various diseases, including cancer.

IC261 (3-[2,4,6-(trimethoxyphenyl)methylidenyl]-indolin-2-one) inhibits CK1δ and ε already in the low micromolar range. Its high potential to inhibit the growth of various tumour cells could be explained in part by its ability to inhibit microtubule dynamics in both, interphase and mitotic cells. Therefore, in this study the effects of IC261 on microtubule dynamics in interphase and mitotic cells have been analyzed.
