This text was written for a short course on communication complexity given at the 5th International PhD School in Formal Languages and Applications at Tarragona, Spain (June 5/6, 2006). The course was planned for three lectures.The text is intended to beginners and it may also serve as a guide for further reading. Some easy exercises are spread out through the text with solutions given at the end. The present version is a revision of the one used in class.
