Health Economic Benefits of Vasovist®

  • Chapter
Clinical Blood Pool MR Imaging

Abstract

Research on cost and outcomes has grown to become an integral part of radiology since the first controlled randomized studies in lung and breast cancer were carried out in the 1960s and 1970s. New diagnostic procedures and methods may reduce costs and generate benefits for patients simultaneously, as the introduction of noninvasive magnetic resonance (MR) or computer tomographic (CT) angiography [1] did. However, new methods often increase costs, as they tend not to replace but rather function as an adjunct to existing methods, or their initial costs are higher than those of the methods replaced, or the threshold for the new method is lowered due to a better convenience for the patient or operator [2].
