Wenn es kein durchsetzbares Recht gibt, erwarten Juristen häufig Chaos. Auf den ersten Blick könnte dies auch auf das Flaggschiff des usergenerated content zutreffen, die Online-Enzyklopädie Wikipedia.1 Angesichts einer offenen Architektur, die jedermann erlaubt, Einträge mit sofortiger Wirkung zu ändern, scheinen Qualitätsprobleme und Konflikte vorprogrammiert. Dennoch deuten Umfang und Art der Nutzung auf ein stetig wachsendes Vertrauen der Internetnutzer in die kollaborativ erstellten Inhalte hin. Dieser Beitrag fragt, warum. Dazu werden Funktionsweise und Bedingungen von Selbstkontrolle auf Wikipedia anhand exemplarischer Konflikte beschrieben und Konsequenzen für den Umgang mit kollaborativen Plattformen im Internet diskutiert.
